A study on Localization of Foramen Monro and Related Nucleus in Simple Skull X-ray Films

Abstract
|
|
|
In stereotaxic thalamectomy for the treatment of extrapyramidal disorders, air encephalogram and calcified pineal gland are very important; landmarks for localization of thalamic target.
Clinical experiences of many investigators have, however, mentioned that air encephalogram often could not show clearly Foramen. Monro or other related structures.
The pineal calcification has not always been in appearance on tye film. Further-more, some patients have shown post pneumoencephalographic complica￢tions.
The author, therefore, believes that the simple method for localization of Fo￢ramen Monro and related thalamic nuclei on the simple skull X-ray, would be a convenient guide in stereotaxic brain surgery.
Twenty cases of normal pneumoencephalography and 5 cases of stereotaxic
thalamectomy were chosen and their films measured as follows.
1. The point, posterior edge of Foramen Monro, is measured to be located on .
F.M. which is formed by cross of b line and c line
b line; formed at an angle of 23. 3 degrees with a or base line, passim
anterior notch of frontal fossa and Internal Protuberance of occipital,
bone
c line; passed mid Sella, Turcica, forming at an angle of 90.4 in degrees wit or base line
2. Ventrolateral nucleus of thalamus is measured to be located on the line, forming at an angle of 19 in degrees with base line.
